In 1979, the event was moved to the Tobruk (Memorial Baths) Pool and the extended space allowed for additional attendees and a grander function.

Often referred to as the “Pool Ball”, the Cairns Amateurs Ball continues to be held at the Tobruk Memorial Complex. This function caters for 2,500 people in a tropical outdoor setting and tickets sell out early in the year. Members with enquiries are asked to contact the Cairns Amateurs office.

As it is such a gala event, the preferred dress code at the Cairns Amateurs Ball, for both members and guests is Black Tie, with a lounge suit and tie as the minimum requirement for men. Dress standards must be adhered to by all Members and their Guests or entrance may be refused.
