Qantas Fashions on the Field

The Cairns Amateurs Fashions on the Field is indisputably the pinnacle showcase of racewear in the region.

Fashions on the Field is a highly-anticipated; hotly contested event each year with entrants coming from as far afield as New Zealand as well as local and interstate competitors. Each year judges from across the spectrum of Australian fashion and media cast expert eyes over the entrants. Their presence creates an event of style, contemporary trends and elegance.

In 2010 Fashions on the Field has experienced a significant makeover. New Amateurs CEO Graham Thornton and his 8 sub-committee members are working tirelessly to present a fresh approach to this traditional event. Differences from previous years include pre-registration online, no entry fees and contestants will be marshalled and paraded under cover. There will be 4 local preliminary judges, all very qualified yet first timers to their positions. The 4 finalist judges are from outside of Cairns and will be visiting Cairns Amateurs for their first time. In all there will be 8 new faces from the fashion industry working together under new guidelines to ensure a fair outcome for all entrants. The prizes promise to be bigger and a new category has been introduced, Best Emerging Designers. To make the event cooler and quicker for the majority of contestants, preliminary judging will begin at 11.00am and will be finalised by 12.15pm. The finalists will be required for Finalist Judging at 1.00pm.

The categories in 2010:
