The B-boy, Motown and soulful sounds of vocal trio, The Koi Boys have been announced today as headliners for this year’s ANZ Cairns Amateurs Ball.
Following the success of last year’s pinnacle social event, traditionally held on the Friday evening of the three day Cairns Amateurs Carnival, the ball will once again take place at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal on Friday 9 September.
This year will also mark the long standing and significant partnership between Cairns Amateurs Carnival and ANZ which stretches back 12 years to 2004. ANZ’s Regional Executive FNQ, Jeffery Schrale commented that while the Ball in particular is a terrific celebration, there are many other benefits this event presents for the region’s economic prosperity.
“The Cairns Amateurs event is not just a great reflection of the Far North Queensland spirit and way of life, but importantly it plays a key role in supporting the local tourism sector which in turn provides a significant boost to Cairns’ economy,” Mr Schrale said.
With just over a month until this year’s Carlton Mid Cairns Amateurs Carnival gets underway, glamour couples are already gearing up to rub shoulders with the who’s who of local glitterati at the black tie event.
In 2016, patrons will dance the night away to live music featuring popular newcomers on the block, The Koi Boys – who this year became the first-ever trio or group to get through the audition process for Channel 9’s reality TV sing-off, The Voice.
Originally from New Zealand, Nuz Ngatai, Danny Faifai and Kevin Keepa (a former member of Sex N Chocolate and X Factor contestant), the trio were regulars on the Gold Coast music scene before finding fame on television with The Chords’ Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream).
Cairns Amateurs Carnival CEO Graham Thornton said along with the waterfront venue of Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, securing The Koi Boys as entertainment was a coup – their sound providing the perfect fit to an elegant night under the stars.
“The Amateurs Ball is always a winner but this year we’ve built on last year’s success to take steps over and beyond to guarantee that extra zing,” said Mr Thornton.
“The Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal is as spectacular as it is convenient. It is walking distance from a host of city hotels so it will be really easy for visitors or locals who are staying the night in the CBD,” he said.
This event format will also feature the popular food station buffets created by award-winning chefs to showcase the region’s finest produce.
The celebrations get underway at twilight with canapés and beverages on arrival in Shed 2 followed by dinner and a spectacular fireworks display under the stars and a colourful assortment of live music to provide the backdrop of a night to remember.
“Patrons will dance the night away inside the Terminal and they can relax at their tables on the plaza with the ability to converse, dine and socialise, enjoying the tradition of an open-air black tie ball under the stars, with the safety of a wet weather option inside the terminal,” Mr Thornton said.
