Friday 12 August 2022. Cairns Amateurs Carnival’s 2022 local ambassadors are power couple and dynamic duo Kate George and David Murphy who are primed and ready to spread the word and share the excitement in the lead up to Far North Queensland’s pinnacle social event next month (8 to 10 September 2022).

In what is a lovely and rather appropriate twist, the couple first met in the Aviary area of Cairns Amateurs and with that connection and special memory, they are thrilled to be named this year’s local ambassadors.

“We have both attended the carnival for many years and have loved every minute of this fabulous event. We feel honoured to be this year’s ambassadors and cannot what to see what the 2022 Carnival has in store for us,” said Kate.

According to Cairns Amateurs Carnival President David Goodman local ambassadors are a committee appointment, chosen annually to perform an integral marketing role that leverages from their high profile, influence and enthusiasm for the event.

“There is much care and consideration that goes into choosing our local ambassadors, which along with their ability to promote the Carnival, must also have a genuine association with Cairns Amateurs and passion for what it represents from fashion and fun to horses and racing.

“We are lucky to have Kate and David on board as this year’s local ambassadors. Their youthful exuberance, positivity and of course, glamour, set them in good stead to promote the Amateurs’ trifecta of fun, fashion and racing,” Mr Goodman said.

A trained dancer, and gymnast, Kate George, at the helm of in demand entertainment business, KL Performance Industry, epitomises hard work and the valuable addition performing arts make to meaningful and memorable events, including the Cairns Amateurs. From the gala ball to the trackside entertainment, the KL Performance Industry dancers have been a firm and fabulous fixture both on and off the track since 2019 and will be prominent once again in 2022. When she is not working her magic on the stage, Kate teaches grade three students at St Joseph’s School.

David Murphy is one of Cairns’ young leaders in business with a love of getting involved and giving back to local community. Over the past 15 years David has been closely associated with the Northern Pride Rugby League however, most recently has turned his focus to real estate and making his mark as the Co-Director of RE/MAX Real Estate Services, one of Cairns’ most successful real estate agencies. David holds a Bachelor of Economics and Auctioneer’s licence.
