Cairns Amateurs Carnival’s charity partnership with Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation (FNQHF) is primed to break the 2021 fundraising record with a winning trifecta of Fashion High Tea raffle, two-day Carnival barbecue and Gala Ball auction.
Cairns Amateurs Carnival’s three-year partnership with FNQHF commenced in 2021, and in its maiden year, generated an all-time fundraising high of $31,467 in support of projects improving health outcomes for Far North Queenslanders.
Cairns Amateurs Carnival Event Manager Victoria Jennings said a charitable partnership was integral to community events and promoting positive engagement.
“With a history dating back to 1959, Cairns Amateurs is truly special in the way it has evolved over many years yet still holds a mirror to the Far North Queensland community,” Ms Jennings said.
“There is a lot of passion that goes into throwing one of the region’s biggest events starting with our voluntary committee and the countless hours they spend making sure the event is on point and an outstanding success.
“Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation has been founded on similar principles and we are just so proud to lend our support to their cause, most especially their committed and hard-working volunteers.”
In 2022, the FNQHF team will be out in force at events throughout the Carnival program – beginning on Thursday, September 8 – with a fundraising raffle for 480 guests attending the Captain Morgan Tropical Fashion High Tea on the waterfront.
Raffle items include a two-night stay at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas.
Added to this, a barbecue will refuel racegoers across both race days at Cannon Park on Friday and Saturday, September 9-10, while a live auction at the ANZ Cairns 2 Amateurs Gala Ball will attract bids for sporting memorabilia, tourism packages and more.
FNQHF CEO Gina Hogan said Cairns Amateurs was a highlight of the FNQ social calendar.
“I’ve attended many Amateurs events over the years and it’s always something the whole community looks forward to,” Mrs Hogan said.
“We’re incredibly grateful for this support once again which is validation of our role in the community.
“Thank you to the committee for supporting us and of course to everyone who takes part in these events for supporting improved health outcomes in our region.”
Since its establishment in 1997, the non-profit charity has contributed more than $25 million to health care – from cancer and cardiology to children and babies, respiratory, gastroenterology, medical imaging, and research.
FNQHF supports hospitals from Tully to the Torres Strait and west to Croydon.
All tickets and events can be booked and purchased at the Cairns Amateurs Carnival
Cairns Amateurs Carnival Event Manager, Victoria Jennings said she is pleased to welcome Captain Morgan Tropical as naming sponsor while returning fashion partner Myer Cairns will feature key pieces from its Spring/Summer ‘22 collections along with millinery from Mel Ferrero and Sonlia in an exciting fashion parade showcase curated by leading stylist, Pip Addison.
“It is great to have Captain Morgan Tropical present this very popular event that each year draws a big turnout of ladies and gents for high tea and merriment in advance of the two-day racing carnival.
“Guests can expect to see plenty of tropical and spring inspired theming in keeping with Captain Morgan Tropical branding, along with high tea goodies from Ochre catering,” Ms Jennings said.
Along with the opportunity to see some incredible fashion, event and experienced media personality emcee Juanita Soper will guide guests throughout proceedings including how to win valuable prizes including a beautifully crafted pair of bezel set high grade diamond studs from The Diamond Hunter valued at $3000.
Adding to the event’s hotly contested ‘Lady of the Day’ and ‘Best Millinery’ competitions, judged by Myer Cairns Manager, Wayne Cosgrove, is ‘Ambassador’s Choice’ chosen by special guest and Carnival Ambassador 2022, Emma Scodellaro. The event’s entertainment line-up also includes music by guitarist and vocalist, Connor Reid and the opportunity to secure a print of a hand-drawn illustration by resident fashion illustrator, local artist, Luisa Manea.
Cairns Amateurs Carnival’s fundraising partner for 2022, Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation (FNQHF) will also have a strong presence with team members selling tickets in a giant raffle including a 2-night luxury getaway at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort in Port Douglas.
The Captain Morgan Fashion High Tea is being held on the Eastern Events Lawn of Cairns Esplanade from 11am to 2pm on Thursday 8 September.
